Functional Capacity Evaluation

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive objective test of an individual’s ability to perform functional/ work-related tasks.

What is the purpose of an FCE?

To assess the performance of the client to determine safe maximum abilities regarding work or activities of daily living

AN FCE WILL ADRESS:

  • Is the worker physically able to work?

  • Is there a match between the worker’s physical abilities and the job requirements?

  • Are there any safety precautions that need to be taken at work to prevent re-injury?

  • What modificaltions can be made to the work , worker, or work site to assist return to work?

What is the purpose of an FCE?

  • Comprehensive Functional Capacity Evaluation (WorkWell System)

    • A full-scale physical assessment using standardised WorkWell protocols to determine overall work readiness and/or physical tolerances. Includes a detailed clinical report.

  • Comprehensive FCE with Cognitive Components

    • An integrated assessment evaluating both physical tolerances and cognitive executive functioning (memory, concentration, and problem-solving). Recommended for neurodegenerative conditions or high-complexity roles.

  • Targeted Lower Limb Functional Capacity Evaluation

    • A focused assessment of gait, balance, and lower extremity strength/endurance relative to specific job or lifestyle demands.

  • Targeted Upper Limb Functional Capacity Evaluation

    • A focused assessment of fine and gross motor coordination, grip strength, and upper extremity range of motion.
